We Have Some Poets in the House!

Today, Burlington High School’s poetry club sponsored the Fourth Annual BHS Student Day of Poetry. By partnering with Mass Poetry, who brought two renowned authors to BHS to facilitate writing workshops, students were able to spend the day generating their own work, exchanging ideas, and getting feedback on their craft. We were lucky enough to be joined by students from Billerica Memorial High School, which gave young writers the opportunity to meet new people and share different perspectives. Jamele Adams and Jennifer Martelli, two Mass Poetry poet educators ran thoughtful, inspiring workshops that allowed students to access poetry and find their own connections to words on the page.

Following the workshops, students had time to unwind and polish some of their poems before heading to the auditorium for the student open mic and performance by Harlym 1two5. Perhaps the most rewarding part of the day was seeing students take the stage to read their work, clap each other to the mic, and cheer each other on.
